In this post you will learn How to Hide or Un-Hide the Recycle Bin Icon in Windows XP and windows vista / 7 .If you are trying to delete all the icons on your desktop then you would notice that only Recycle Bin icon is not getting deleted where as all the icons like My Computer can easily be removed. This icon can easily removed & retained after deleting by following these steps.

I am explaining 3 ways for windows XP from which you can Hide the Recycle Bin Icon and whenever you need it, you can Un-Hide it.

Remove Recycle bin Icon In Windows XP

Method 1 :
This is the simple way as compare to second one.
From Group Policy Editor we will Hide the Recycle Bin Icon.

• Click Start, Click Run, Type “GPEDIT.MSC” , Press Enter
• On the Left Column Expand Administrative Templates, click on Desktop
• On the Right Column Find Remove Recycle Bin Icon from Desktop
• Double click on it, A Property Window will Appear
• Select Enable option, Press OK.
• Refresh Desktop, Enjoy!

To Show Recycle Bin Icon on Desktop, Do same steps but instead of Enable select      Not Configured.
Method 2 :   

This step is somewhat risky, if you done this incorrectly you may have to Reinstall
         your Operating System. This Blog's Author will not be liable if any damage occurs.
         Do it on your own risk or choose the first way.
NOTE : - Backup your Registry File before Proceeding.
Copy the following code into notepad and save it as recycle.reg.

• Double click on the file, click YES, click OK.
• A new option will be added in the Folder Option.
• Goto My Computer, then Tools Menu, then Folder Option
• Select View tab, find Show Recycle-Bin Icon on the Desktop option select it.
• Press OK, Enjoy!

Method 3 :

• Open registry Editor(regedit.exe) in Run Under start menu.
• Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\
  Desktop\NameSpace\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}
• Delete the Key {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} by right clicking on it & selecting Delete
• Then close the editor.
• Reboot or Restart your PC

after this your Recycle Bin icon will be removed from the desktop...
Bringing Back Recycle Bin Icon on Desktop again :

• Open registry Editor(regedit.exe) in Run Under start menu.
• Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ Desktop\NameSpace
• Then right click on NameSpace,select New & then select Key & name it as
  {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}
• Your Recycle Bin icon will again be restored....

Remove or Disable Recycle bin Icon In Windows vista / 7Method 1 :

1. Right-click on the Desktop.
2. Click Personalize.
3. In the Personalize appearance and sounds window click the Change desktop icons link on the left-hand side.
     
4. Uncheck the Recycle Bin box.
   

Method 2 :

1. Open Personalization by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking Appearance and Personalization, and then clicking Personalization.
   
2. In the left pane, click Change desktop icons, and then do one of the following:
   
   • To remove the Recycle Bin from the desktop, clear the Recycle Bin check box.
     
   • To display the Recycle Bin on the desktop, select the Recycle Bin check box.
3. Click OK.
